A 360 View

After a botched kitchen remodel that took a solid month to straighten out, I'm eager to get back to the garden doing what I love: working, praying, and soaking up the peace. The clutter of a kitchen turned upside down, and the time and energy spent making things right triggered a new resolve to simplify, starting with outside. I will evaluate which garden projects are worthy of my time, and get rid of materials I think (hope) I’ll never use. This is my plan, but I’m not setting a time frame.
My weakness for odd looking things—pieces of metal, containers, rocks, anything I imagine might look good in the garden--have brought both my storage and my garden to near full capacity; and a cluttered garden isn’t a restful garden.
I’ve had some things longer than I care to say and still haven’t done anything useful with them. But you know how it goes: as soon as you get rid of something, you find a use for it; however, I’m resolved. I’m digging out an invasive root in my soul. God has put his gentle but firm finger on it. I’m finding it easier to resist the temptation to buy, even look. More and more I think carefully about the why, when, and where of an item’s purpose. It works especially well to walk away and sleep on it. Another discipline to keep from accumulating is the opposite of “buy one get one”. It’s called “buy one give one”.
Sitting here in my favorite hanging chair that offers a 360 view of my little sanctuary, I feel a peace about the present, and the future. Twirling slowly to see it all, it occurs to me that I’m in the center and there isn’t a beginning or an end. From here I can see where I need to add or take away, what’s needed to complete the design.
It occurs to me that I’m God’s garden! He’s the center and can see what’s needed to complete his design for me. What peace to know that I’m in the best of hands. Knowing that I’m cooperating with his work in me feels right and brings peace. I’m at peace because I know if I just listen and follow him, he’ll lead me to green pastures and still waters all the days of my life.
I pray this peace for you...Jesus is alive and well and always working on your behalf to bring you into his peace. He has a 360 view of your life—he is Goodness and Love personified and is ready to take your hand and lead you, if you’ll let him.
